If you’re like a lot of people who may have casually thought about how to obtain a federally licensed firearms, or (FFL) you may not have a complete understanding of what is needed. You must have an approved FFL or Federal Firearms License to buy and sell weapons. And while it’s not fair to all, it is a necessary step in dealing in firearms. It is also very important if you’re a collector of firearms, specifically (C & R), curios and relics of such firearms. You get to buy weapons at wholesale prices and wont have to pay transfer fees!

Does The Government EVER Make Anything Easy?

An important factor to note is that federal licensing of firearms is not an easy task. Any time you have to deal with the government and the paperwork associated or bureaucracy, which is almost guaranteed to not be easy. Unfortunately, getting an FFL is no different. So that said, let’s take a closer look at the implementation process and some of the requirements. You will first need to do is get an application.

There are generally two types of applications belonging to obtain a license from Federal firearms. This is the ATF form 7 (F 5.310,12), and how 7CR ATF (F 5.310,16). Form 7 is the basic federal firearms license application and the application form is 7CR you’ll use if you want to become a licensed collector in curios and relics.

Although you may simply print, complete and submit forms for the government and most online applications, a license application for a federal firearms permit is not one of them. The reason for this is that you will have to submit photographs and fingerprints in order to complete the application process. Yo0u can order these forms online, or call the ATF and request them.

Once requested, you will be mailed to you. Now, before completing the application, there are some basic requirements that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, state that you must meet to obtain a license. These are:

• You are 21 years of age or older.
• You are not prohibited the possession of firearms.
• Have not violated the regulations of the Arms Control Act.
• You wont lie on your application or fail to disclose information about yourself.
• You have an authorized place of business or premises to be used for conducting business or to its collection of weapons.

Moreover, once you have met these requirements, it shall also confirm that:

• Any business that you are operating with the intention to carry out at the place of the license is not prohibited under any state or local laws.
• That you will comply with any local or state laws that may apply to your company within 30 days of the approval of his license.
• You will not do any business until you have complied with all state and local laws that relate to your business.
• You must notify your local police chief through a form, if you intend to apply for a license, and here the location of the license will be.
• And finally, you must provide some form of secure storage and safety devices for firearms sold in your area.

Assuming you have done everything correctly, which is often not the case because of the complexity of the application process, simply sit and wait until you receive a notice telling you if you have been approved or rejected. Note that it is essential that you fill out your order right the first time. Not doing so could jeopardize their chances of obtaining a federally licensed firearms, or at least substantially increase the time it takes to be approved. Just remember to pay close attention to details to complete the application.
